In August, the Australian Bureau of Statistics Census collectors will be knocking on doors across the Country.  The collection of quality data is critical to the allocation of service funding.  However, for people who have had negative experiences with bureaucracies, have low level English literacy, are homeless etc. Census forms can feel like a difficult / irrelevant / dangerous thing to participate in.   With funding from the City of Port Phillip, PPCG is leading a public engagement pilot that aims to demystify census and thereby improve completion rates among low-income residents.    A comparative report will be presented to the ABS with recommendations for future Census implementation with this population.
